Beside Slamdunk I never really read and love sport manga before, yes before I read this amazing manga, Eyeshield 21. Until now this my most favorite sport genre manga.

Eyeshield 21 (アイシールド21 Aishīrudo Nijūichi) is a Japanese manga series written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated Yusuke Murata.The manga was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from July 2002 to June 2009. The series consists of 333 chapters collected in 37 tankobon (book) volume.

Eyeshield 21 is about a weak, fainthearted, wimpy high schooler boy named Kobayakawa Sena who has only physical ability in running speed, the result of his school bullies. He suddenly and akwardly invited to American Football club by a weird, devil-look sempai named Hiruma Youichi and a big fat round boy named Kurita Ryokan. Because of some kind of threat from Hiruma he joined the Deimon Devil Bats team under code name Eyeshield 21. In times, Hiruma gathered people by threats so the team could have enough people to compete in the American Football Tournament for change to play in the high school football league championship - Christmas Bowl.

I never had a fond in American football so I never learn the rules or read anything about it. The first time I knew Eyeshield 21 series was because I was bored so I watched tv and it was playing Eyeshield 21 anime series and I just love the characters. Yes, the unique of the characters is the reason I read this manga in the first place then I got carried away with the stories.

my most favorite character in this manga is Hiruma Youichi; He has devil-look; fang teeth, pointy ears and spiky blond hair, beside the devil-look he also has devil personality; he like to carry guns and shoot his team-mates when they don’t behave like he wanted to be and seems to get whatever he wants by threats and blackmail from his black devil handbook. He is cunning, smart, manipulative, tricky, and other things that could be related evil. He is one of the three founders of devil bats and the quarterback of the team, he is called the commander from hell.

I love his shout : Ya-Ha!!

beside Hiruma, the other characters also have their unique personality

Kobayakawa Sena, the main character is weak and so clumsy but he never gave up and always did his best finding a way to beat his rival to be the number one in running.

Raimon Tarou (Monta), dont have any throwing ability, he really sucks at it. The only ability he has is catching ability so he is the wild receiver of devil bat. He is not a smart one and always called monkey by his team mate. He always says MAX in the end of his sentence. Catch MAX!

Kurita Ryoukan, he is the big fat round boy and one of the three founders of the devil bats. Behind his large body he is a humble, kind hearted person and somewhat of a dim-witted. His favorite word is funnuraba which always he shout whenever he get exited or in extra effort mode.

The Ha-ha brother, Jumonji, Kuroki and Togano. They are first joint the team because being blackmailed by Hiruma, but in times they grew a fond in American Football and tried their best in it. They are not actually brothers. Among the three, Jumonji is the smartest.

Cerberus, can be said that he is Hiruma’s dog since he only listen to Hiruma’s order and always used to chase the devil bat team to practice their speed.

Anezaki Mamori, is the mother hen manager, she always worried about Sena but she is the only one who could face Hiruma when he showering bullets towards his team mates. There are hints between their relationship but only hints and never truly clear.

Gen Takekura (Mushasi) he is one of the three founders of devil bats, he is like an old man instead of a high schooler.

ahh, I’m tired writing the personalities. Just read the manga and you will know your self.

What I love from this manga is how their journey to fulfilled their dream to compete in Christmas Bowl. They didn’t rely on miracles but really did their best in every matches. They didn’t get their ability in easy way, they practiced hard, really hard to fight and beat their opponents and become the number one.

Eyeshield 21 is a great manga I can tell. It can make you laugh non stop because of the idiocy from almost character –_ –” yet their effort to become number one can make you want do your best to fulfilled your dreams.
